Once I thought I was in love,
And I did show quite a sign,
The moans, the aches, the trembles,
Each symptom so divine.
Once I thought I was in love,
So badly I'd been smitten,
I lost my mind, and lost my tongue;
All wit cut off or bitten.
Once I thought I was in love,
I grew warm and I then grew faint,
My cheeks were cold and pale ivory,
Then flushed gaudy red, as if with paint.
Once I thought I was in love,
My stomach a nervous cocoon,
You had but to smile in my direction,
And gracefully, I'd swoon.
Once I thought I was in love,
I thought it was with you;
Oh, sweet and rapturous malady!
I really had the flu.
And I did show quite a sign,
The moans, the aches, the trembles,
Each symptom so divine.
Once I thought I was in love,
So badly I'd been smitten,
I lost my mind, and lost my tongue;
All wit cut off or bitten.
Once I thought I was in love,
I grew warm and I then grew faint,
My cheeks were cold and pale ivory,
Then flushed gaudy red, as if with paint.
Once I thought I was in love,
My stomach a nervous cocoon,
You had but to smile in my direction,
And gracefully, I'd swoon.
Once I thought I was in love,
I thought it was with you;
Oh, sweet and rapturous malady!
I really had the flu.
The most divine of all ills.
